Health law is constantly changing and morphing due to the efforts of interested parties or stakeholders. Some of the proposed changes benefit citizens while others appear only to further the interests of corporations. It is important to understand the influence of politics, for example, on policy. For this assignment, you will have the opportunity to explore current news items related to health law and policy.

Trump Administration Could Walk Back Ban of Mint, Menthol Vaping Flavors Following Pressure From E-Cig Advocates

HHS had pledged to prohibit all vaping paraphernalia with the exception, of tobacco enhanced flavor, but that verdict generated political counterattack for the government. Therefore, the amount of vaping-linked infections keeps ascending, but at a reduced proportion. Administrators cautioned that could be for reasons of reporting postponements instead of headway being made in the epidemic, however. (Kaiser Health News, 2019).

Bloomberg: Trump Considers retreat From Ban of Mint, Menthol Vaping Flavors

The Trump organization is contemplating stepping away from a vow to get rid of well-liked flavors such as, mint and menthol vaping merchandise – part of an attempt to halt use amongst children and control an evolving health disaster – as e-cigarette supporters urge to defend some flavors for adults. HHS Secretary Alex Azar said that administration would soon get rid of all flavors of vaping merchandise apart from tobacco flavors. The administration is reassessing the mint and menthol flavors. The Associated Press: Vaping-Related Illnesses in U.S. Still Rising, But More Slowly

Less accounts of vaping infections are being reported, but United States officials do not know what to think of it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that one hundred and twenty-five added occurrences were documented in the last week, this means 1,604 cases in this year alone, and 34 deaths have happened. The epidemic is still going on, but the number of new occurrences has declined for three weeks in a row. A CDC spokesperson said reportage delays could be one reason. (Stobbe, 10/24/2019).

NBC News: Doctors Show How Vaping THC Damages Lungs, As Illnesses Rise Nationwide

State health divisions express to NBC News they have either verified or are examining at least 2,100 cases or more. The state of Alaska is the only state so far that has no cases, or documented cases at the least. At least two more vaping deaths have occurred and verified on Thursday, one in Tennessee, and one other in Washington DC. The total number of deaths of 36 so far. More vaping related deaths are under examination. The American Journal of Clinical Pathology supplied a better look at the harm done to the lung tissue occurred by vaping THC. (Edwards, 10/24/2019).
