It is important for educators to promote the safe, legal and ethical use of digital information and technology for the privacy and safety of their students and their families. The first thing that comes to mind is the list that the school I currently work at provides for teachers. This list is approved by a technology department that goes over the safety requirements of each website. Teachers are only allowed to use the sites on the list and if they wish to use a website that is not on the list then they must submit a request for the tech department to check it out and either approve or deny the request. This ensures that sites being used are in the best interests of students and their private information. I would teach my students the importance of technology safety because even though sites are approved, there may be ways students enter information that is unsafe. For example, I would tell my students that if we are playing a game like kahoot that they should never use their full name and instead use names of their favorite animals, characters or other non-private information.
