Independently study the TMT conflict. This video by Kahoali`i K. Keahi-Wood, Chaminade University of Honolulu’s Cultural Engagement Specialist, provides an overview of the TMT conflict on Mauna Kea:
Attempt to talk to someone involved in the protests if possible. After weighing both the cultural importance of the site and the scientific advancement proposed to be provided by the telescope, pretend to be a judge and pick a side to “win” the land dispute and discuss why you chose that side. If possible, attempt to design a compromise that at least partially satisfies both parties. It’s ok if you determine it’s unreasonable to expect a compromise.
