Change refers to the alteration of something or someone to become different and modified. In an organization, organizational change refers to the alteration and modification of structures, processes, operational methods, culture, human resources, technologies, among others, to improve the organizational output and performance. Organizational change can be continuous or sporadic. Change occurs in a workplace as a form of adaptability in the ever-changing working conditions and trends (Tang, 2019). In the contemporary world of business, the patterns and organizations are versatile and progressive, thus requiring adaptability and changes that effectively adapts to the dynamics. The changing behavior of organizations depends on continuous or sporadic change implementation. Organizations must embrace continuous change to survive, grow, and improve their performance and operations.
Continuous change occurs in an organization for different reasons sourced from both internal and external pressures. The three most prominent factors prompting this continual change include the advancement in technology, changing and ever-growing market trends, and existing deficiencies in an organization. Technology is not a static factor, as it keeps advancing, growing, and evolving. These advancements have a direct impact on the operations of organizations, thus forcing them to adopt new technologies for growth, competition, development, and survival (Sindhuja, 2018). Advancements in technologies have resulted in the need to take alternative technologies to meet and match the changing consumer needs. Secondly, the market trends have been changing over time, including factors such as the changing consumer needs, presence of government intervention, socio-cultural, and eco-political changes.
Finally, when organizations record deficiencies in their functions and departments, immediate change is necessary and mandatory (Singh, 2018). Some of the shortcomings include communication obstacles, unaligned goals and objectives, and ambiguity of policies. To survive, grow, and become competitive, organizations must adapt continual change.
